GOOD NEWS - TUTTOMONDO PISA

Pisa.

The Wall: London’s Most Public Gallery

As MadnessWall we share infos about a very interesting Street Art project in London - THE WALL - with the target to build the biggest public gallery in town!

Our Project
We’re turning 5 years old here at Village Underground, and in celebration we’ve decided to try and make a dream happen.
We want to build London’s most public gallery. For years this immense wall on Great Eastern Street has been host to many artists painting in the wall’s 4m X 3m recesses, they’re oddly like natural picture frames, from Steve Powers and Shepard Fairy to incredibly talented local artists. We want to evolve this informal project, turning it into an amazing permanent art space.
To do this, we need to design, build and install bullet proof metal and glass frames over the recesses to protect the art work from theft and vandalism. Importantly, this means that artists can paint on board and canvas so the work can be kept. Its been really tough over the years to see such amazing work lost as the next artist paints over it.
Saving the art work will mean that artists can sell their pieces and earn a living. That’s obviously important, but it also means that we can exhibit art that’s not just painting – photography, digital art, mixed media, even interactive work: This takes the wall onto a whole new level.
Staying True
We’ve always been steadfast in remaining independent and much of what we do at Village Underground is on a not-for-profit basis. Supporting artists and providing an open and alternative space for culture is why we get out of bed in the morning. We’ve fought off the offers from advertising companies who what to use the wall, we want to raise our own money rather than having a corporate sponsor.
How it Will Work
We’ll invite guest curators and artists to contribute, programming The Wall with the same mixed-art approach as venue of Village Underground itself. Established artists will exhibit next to emerging ones, international artists next to locals.

We’re also creating The Digital Wall that will take the project much further afield. The Digital Wall will allow artists from all around the world to upload their own work in a bid to have exhibition time on the physical wall, this means we can go global, from New York to Istanbul. Art lovers can log onto the Digital Wall to follow this international stream of creativity, as well as download or order affordable art prints. This will generate income for both the artists and for the ongoing project costs, as well as Village Underground’s social programme of supporting young talent.

London traffic stats state that over 10 million cars pass The Wall every year - that’s more ‘visitors’ than Tate, The National Gallery and The Barbican combined. Add to that a few million more passengers, pedestrians and cyclists, and you’ll start to see why we’re more than a little excited about our plans. That's why we need your help.

A huge thank you from Auro, Abi and Orlando and all of us at Village Underground And if you're interested, you learn more about who we are and what we do here: www.villageunderground.co.uk

Renowned international and local artists such us ROA (Belgium), Ethos (Brazil), Kid Zoom (USA/Australia), Anthony Lister (USA/Australia) and the Everfresh Collective (Australia) will illuminate the island with large-scale installations, live art creations including aerosol art, stencilling, paste-ups, sticker art, cup rocking, sculpture, murals and bill boards.

Alongside the action, an array of pop-up bars, retail and gallery spaces, artist battles, demos, DJ's, tours and art-making projects will cover the island with activity for all ages.
The OUTPOST PROJECT will also present an innovative education program, engaging students with the artists, voices, styles and issues of Street Art. Escape the mainland and immerse yourself in street art on Cockatoo Island.

UNCLEAR GROUND - TERRAIN VAGUE

Unclear ground/ Terrain vague is an installation currently on view in Niort (Fr) at the Pilori Museum until the 29th of October.
This show is curated by Winterlong Galerie, and is a collaboration between Kid Acne and Ema.’
Unclear Ground takes inspiration from creating something out of nothing and seeing beauty in the mundane.
From derelict factories, to abandoned wastelands and disused railways – for the past 2 decades both Ema & Kid Acne have utilised these forgotten spaces to create their art, injecting them with a splash of colour and giving them a new lease of life.
This collaborative installation mixes various media including painting, silkscreening  and sewn fabrics. The title refers to the uncertainty experienced in creating a new piece of work – exploring the unknown to find something new.
Combining influence from graffiti, science fiction and comic books, this exhibition invites us to explore the world around us, proving the age old saying – “seek and you shall find”.

BUSY BEING LAZY

I thought you might like to have a look at our latest piece called 'Busy being lazy'.
I think the title pretty much sums it up.
It's on plywood and uses load of nails and thread to illustrate the busy thoughts the supine figure is having whilst snoozing...

Cheers

MONIKER ART FAIR - PROJECTS SPACES

Moniker is extremely pleased to announce their line up for their signature projects spaces due to be launched at this year’s Moniker Art Fair on the 13th of October 2011.
The event will be held at Village Underground, 54 Holywell Lane, London, EC2A 3PQ and will provide artists with spaces to exhibit their work.
These designated artist spaces provide a more experimental and less commercial aspect to Moniker art fair.
This platform offers the artist an opportunity to show experiential projects and ideas that may be outside of their everyday practice.
These spaces also provide the public with the chance to view work by some of the most exciting talents from outside the mainstream art fair circuit.
Each space is individually commissioned or supported, and provides a dynamic and thought provoking dimension to Moniker.
The works in this section will highlight the diversity of practice being produced from an international selection of emerging and established artists who come from both traditional and non-traditional backgrounds.
These spaces will incorporate a mixture of visual art from exciting set design, large-scale canvases featuring portraiture through to abstract paintings, sculpture, and experimental graffiti installation.

XEL - Seen on the streets of Turin

XEL,
Via Ivrea, Turin,
Italy.

OPIEMME@BOLOGNA AL MURO

OPIEMME segnala l'iniziativa BOLOGNA AL MURO.
