ARTIST OF THE DAY - SERGIO LUONGO

Sergio Luongo nasce a Chieri (TO) nel 1976.

Not content with covering one of the biggest artists of our time, VNA 15 talks to stencil master Logan Hicks, East London's infamous Burning Candy crew, Austrian freehand master Nychos, Scottish illustrator Elph and a whole host of other talented and respected artists for you to feast your eyes upon.

STREET ART SAVED MY LIFE !!!

Brooklyn Street Art Presents Street Art Saved My Life : 39 New York Stories in collaboration with ThinkSpace Gallery, an art show to exhibit at C.A.V.E. Gallery in Venice (LA), California on Friday, August 12, 2011.

Street Art Saved My Life : 39 New York Stories heralds the new highly individual character of stories being told on the streets of New York by brand new and established Street Artists from all over the world. Steven P. Harrington and Jaime Rojo, founders of Brooklyn Street Art focus on this flashpoint in modern Street Art evolution by curating a strongly eclectic story-driven gallery show with 39 of the best storytellers who have hit the streets of New York.

Street Art Saved My Life : 39 New York Stories, the gallery show, accompanied by an LA street wall series by selected artists and a public panel lecture and discussion, intends to stake out the New Guard in street art while recognizing some powerful near-legendary forerunners.

The mainly New York lineup exhibits talent from other parts of the US and internationally (Australia, France, UK, Canada, Israel, Germany) and it is as steely and idiosyncratic and storied as the New York scene itself, including Anthony Lister, Avoid, Broken Crow, C215, Cake, Chris Stain, Clown Soldier, Creepy, Dan Witz, El Sol 25, Ema, Faile, Futura, Gaia, Gilf!, Hargo, Hellbent, How & Nosm, Imminent Disaster, Indigo, Judith Supine, Kid Acne, Know Hope, Ludo, Mark Carvalho, Miss Bugs, Nick Walker, NohJColey, Over Under, Radical!, Rene Gagnon, Skewville, Specter, Sweet Toof, Swoon, Tip Toe, Troy Lovegate AKA Other, Various & Gould, and White Cocoa.

GALO ART GALLERY - HAND MADE

This month of May has been hectic for Torino, with so much going on in the city we feel like celebrating even more.
Our next opening will be showing three artist based in Torino, Galo, Jins and Halo-Halo.
The Galo Art Gallery wishes to not only be known to have artist that are well known on an International basis but also introduce new and upcoming artist.
That is exactly what we have combined for this upcoming show on the 13th of May.
With Galo exhibiting around the world with his faces since the end of the 90’s, Jins an active and professional artist since the beginning of the 90’s and Halo-Halo an up and coming artist, they will all combine their forces to make this show a memorable one!
Apart from all this we will also celebrate the fact that the Galo Art Gallery has its one year anniversary!
One year ago we opened our doors in Via Saluzzo 11/g in San Salvario, Torino, Italy. The opening was a solo Galo show “Tamango Times”, we did our best to make a hype but in reality we really didn’t know how it was going to fold out.
I will skip all the bla bla bla about how great it was cause if you were there you know what I’m writing about… From that evening on we knew we needed to continue to reach our goal every show and to bring in the Galo Art Gallery and to Torino ground breaking shows with ground breaking artist.
We hope to see you at the opening of Hand Made by Galo, Jins and Halo- Halo.

During the last two years more then 25.000 visitors clearly demonstrated, that there is an amazing quality and especially a huge interest in Urban Art.

International galleries and art-collectors (from Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, the UK, Brasil , the US, Chile and so on) as well as internationally known artists like Roa, Herakut, Fin DAC, Claudio Ethos, Best Ever or Alexandros Vasmoulakis were joining the STROKE ARTFAIR and made it a very unique art event.

PLEASE DON'T FEED THE ANIMAL !

Please don't feed the Animal!
Roll up! Roll up!

The newest attraction to arrive at Brixton Zoo has been shown to the public for the very first time today.
The Zoo managed to get 'Animal' from The Jim Henson company due to a conservation scheme that has been in place since both parties signed up to the Drummer Awareness Initiative in 2004.
Genetic testing has been inconclusive although there are indications that his D.N.A contains fragments from Keith Moon and Mick Fleetwood as well as a diverse range of other sources. His legendary percussion skills are rivalled only by his mother, Laverne - although her whereabouts are currently unknown.
He has been known to eat just about anything - from a drum set to pieces of glass - so please be careful with your belongings.
This really is a big step forward for Muppet conservation and a massive coup for Brixton Zoo as Animal is a worldwide attraction and will bring much needed revenue into the establishment.
The Drummer Awareness Initiative is also very pleased as in recent years they have seen a steady decline in drummers due to the advancements in technology and are hoping 'Animal' could possibaly drive a surge in drumming being taken up in schools once more.

UP CLOSE and PERSONAL

In two weeks, Vandalog and Murals Around New York (MANY) will be putting on a pop-up show in a New York City apartment.
Up Close and Personal mostly came out of two ideas: 1. Street artists tend to work large outdoors and we wanted to challenge people to make art on a small scale and 2. We’ve all seen artwork in galleries that either would only look good in a gallery but not in a home, or is just too big to fit into a typical apartment and we wanted to see something different from that.
With Up Close and Personal, the show itself is taking place in an apartment on the Upper West Side, and we have capped the size of the artwork at 30 x 30 inches, with an emphasis on going as small as possible.

A CATALOGUE OF STREET ART TECHNIQUES (II)

We had talked about this project here.
Now we interview the guys behind it.
(interview by Dario Ujetto, ENG version by Elena Belliardi).

A Catalogue of Street Art Techniques is a project curated by The G. Canyon in a Crack, born as a support of the 2011 edition of Public Design Festival, organized in Milan by Esterni.
In your opinion, what is the sense of the project of cataloging the urban arts?
When we created “A Catalogue of Street Art Techniques” our first goal was to sensitize the citizens about what surround them, teach them to observe, to linger on around what surround them. Most of the time walking the streets, people do not even notice the presence of works of street art or, at best, regards them as mere vandalism.
With this project we wanted to understand that this is not about that, but this is a genuine form of art, explaining the techniques, talking about the artists and this incredible world.
Moreover, being the street art an ephemeral phenomenon, we also wanted to leave the memory of works, which maybe tomorrow there will be no more, through their cataloguing.
What is your relationship with a very popular app among street art lovers - All The City Street Art?
During the project we thought about a possible interaction between our work and visitors. There it was natural to think of an existing system, rather than create a new one. So we put in connection with the New York team who made “All City Street Art”.
They have been readily available and enthusiasm to participate with our project to the Public Design Festival.
The app during the festival was a huge success. I believe that through this partnership we helped each other.
Do you see future developments for your initiative?
We hope that our project does not end with the experience of Milan, but likely to have future developments in other cities or can evolve with new collaborations. We are already thinking about how to export it.

All The City Street Art ?
Stiamo già pensando a come esportarlo.
