ARKITIP Limited Edition - JR
He exhibits freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are not museum visitors. His work mixes Art and Act; talks about commitment, freedom, identity and limit. Working with a team of volunteers in various urban environments, he mounts enormous black-and-white photo canvases that are spread on the buildings of the slums of Paris, on the walls in the Middle East, on broken bridges in Africa, and across the favelas of Brazil. These images become part of the local landscape and capture people’s attention and imagination both locally and around the world. During JR's projects, elderly women become models for a day and kids turn "artist" for a week. In this art scene, there is no stage to separate the actors from the spectators.
In Rio, he turned hillsides into dramatic visual landscapes by applying images to the facades of favela homes. In Kenya, for his project “Women Are Heroes,” he turned Kibera into a stunning gallery of local faces. In 2006, he created "Portrait of a generation"; a project in the slums of Montfermeil, France. In this project he created portraits of (supposed) suburban “thugs” that he then posted in huge formats in the bourgeois districts of Paris. This illegal project became “official” when the Paris City Hall wrapped its building with JR’s photos. Then in 2007 he created Face 2 Face along with friend and art activist Marco. It was the largest illegal photo exhibition ever produced. JR posted enormous portraits of Israelis and Palestinians face to face in eight Palestinian and Israeli cities, on the both sides of the Security fence / Separation wall. The experts said it would be impossible, but he did it. There was subsequently a book published and a documentary made on the project. In 2008, he embarked for a long international trip for “Women"; a project in which he underlines the dignity of women who are often the targets of conflicts.

The Art of Rebellion III
Today we are having a look at The Art of Rebellion III: the book about street art
by C100 a.k.a. Christian Hundertmark.
As the title suggests this book is the third in the Art of Rebellion series from Publikat. Continuing in the same vein as it forebears Art of Rebellion III contains a wealth of outstanding street art images from all over the globe spread over 200 pages.
The breadth of street artists featured in The Art of Rebellion III is impressive to say the least. There are interesting pieces by well known artists such as Blu, Nick Walker, , Paul Insect, Zevs, Escif and Zevs but also some focus on less well known artists which is good to see. A
s you’d expect with from a publication like this, the quality of the photography throughout is excellent. Another nice touch is that the book gives details of where to find out more information on each of the street artists featured.
London is represented in the book by the likes of Paul Insect, Conor Harrington, Eine and Roa. Eine has four whole pages devoted to his work, primarly focussing on his alphabet shutters in Middlesex Street and “The Strangest Week” on Hackney Road. Two of Roa’s London pieces also make an appearance in the book, Roa’s (now buffed) lenticular rabbit from Curtain Road and the Hackney Road beaver.

EIKONPROJEKT is now online !
EIKONTHESTREET © is a collaborative project that brings sacred art to the streets.
EIKONTHESTREET © was born from an encounter between two Roman street artists (Omino71 and Mr. Klevra), who have reinterpreted traditional Byzantine iconography via urban installations of stickers and posters.
This original project has spawned a number of different collaborations and initiatives:
HOPE AND RESURRECTION
A reportage shot by American photographer and art historian Jessica Stewart that documents the urban performances of Omino71 and Mr.Klevra on the streets of Rome.
URBANdORBI ©
"Creative recycling" project based on taking items of everyday use (scraps or unused objects) and transforming them into unique pieces of Urban Art.
EIKONTHEWALL ©

BLU-MOCA again !
Article via Hyperallergic - Some clear answers are finally surfacing after a week of the LA MOCA controversy. Recently an email between the censored street artist Blu and renowned graffiti photographer Henry Chalfant has been posted online.
Blu has confirmed to me via email that the text is real, and Chalfant has said he will provide his comments on the situation this afternoon.
The email reveals that MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch did not request or see any preliminary sketches for Blu’s mural, and that when Blu arrived in LA almost “everyone” was in Miami during the annual art fairs.
After Deitch decided to erase the mural, the two met for dinner and:
had a very gentle conversation in wich [sic] he asked me to paint another piece on the same wall, suggesting he would have preferred a piece that ‘invites people to come in the museum’. I told him that i will not to do that, for obvious reasons, and that probably I was not the artist best suited for this task.

BREAKING NEWS - Shepard Fairey versus BLU !
Shepard Fairey versus BLU !
"I’m not a fan of censorship but that is why I, and many of the other artists of the show, chose to engage in street art for its democracy and lack of bureaucracy …
However, a museum is a different context with different concerns. It would be tragic for the break through of a street art /graffiti show at a respected institution like MOCA to be sabotaged by public outcry over perceived antagonism or insensitivity in Blu’s mural. Graffiti is enough of a contentious issue already. The situation is unfortunate but I understand MOCA’s decision. Sometimes I think it is better to take the high road and forfeit a battle but keep pushing to win the war." (Shepard Fairey)
Today Fairey looks like an italian demochristian politicos ...
Jeffrey Deitch about BLU wall
MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch has finally broken his silence to the Los Angeles Times over the recent whitewashing of the Blu wall commissioned for the upcoming Art in the Streets exhibition, which will be the first major US museum show featuring street art.
He explains:
This is 100% about my effort to be a good, responsible, respectful neighbor in this historic community … Out of respect for someone who is suffering from lung cancer, you don’t sit in front of them and start chain smoking.

BLU about his walls
BLU talks about his walls in L.A. ! Is Jeffrey Deitch a big furbetto ? Is a big spot for MOCA ? I don't know ...

Os Gemeos about BLU Murales in L.A.
An important endorsement of OS GEMEOS about BLU murales in L.A.

Street Art in Miami ! (II)
Group Exhibition and Public Mural project
Wynwood Walls — 2516 NW Second Avenue, Miami
December 1—December 5, 2010, 12pm—7pm
Opening Event: Evening of Thursday, December 2, 2010
NEW YORK, NY (October 27, 2010) — Jonathan LeVine Gallery is proud to announce its program during Art Basel-Miami 2010, Urban Alchemists—a group exhibition and public mural project presented in association with Tony Goldman, art patron and leader in the restoration and transformation of declining historic districts into thriving cultural destinations. Curated by LeVine, Urban Alchemists will occupy a 2,200 square-foot space within Goldman Properties’ Wynwood Walls—a project that began in 2009 as an open-air art park, which will expand its permanent exhibition this year with the addition of several new murals and museum-quality works of art. Located at 2516 NW 2nd Avenue, the show will run from December 1—December 5. Daily hours will be 12pm—7pm with an opening event on the evening of December 2, 2010.
Sharing Goldman’s long-held belief that public artwork can have transformative, revitalizing powers upon communities such as the Wynwood district of Miami, LeVine is pleased to have this opportunity to contribute to the project. Urban Alchemists features a strong selection of works by ten highly celebrated and Internationally recognized artists coming out of the contemporary urban-folk and street art scenes including: AJ Fosik, Dan Witz, Doze Green, Invader, James Marshall (Dalek), Jeff Soto, Jim Houser, Judith Supine, Mario Martinez (Mars-1) and WK. In conjunction with having works in the show, Parisian artist Invader will create a mosaic mural on the façade of the exhibition space in his signature pixel-based style, and Californian artist Jeff Soto will paint a large-scale mural on an adjacent exterior wall.
