Todd James@A.L.I.C.E. Brussels

A.L.I.C.E. is very happy to present ‘Infinity Lessons’, Todd James’ s first solo show in Belgium.
Self- taught, Todd James (aka REAS) acquires his first elements of visual language at an early age painting the NY subway system.
In 2000, he creates, along with friends Barry McGee and Steve Powers, the exhibition « Street Market » at Deitch Projects in NY.
This exhibition is then selected for the 2001 Venice Biennale. Since then, James' work has been shown at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, the Tate Museum in Liverpool, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco as well as in numerous galleries worldwide.
In a very cartoonish style, the artist delivers his humorous and often absurd vision of the American society.
His painting mixes influences from the pop illustration to the American expressionist painters such as Dekooning and Franz Kline.
ALICE: “what themes are you working on for this show? "
TODD:” I am making more of what I’ve been doing lately : Somali pirates , military themes, sexy people in sexy places, things that are happening now but seem like they’ve been going on and on since the beginning and will be to infinity . There will be lots of colors and gouache on paper”.

BANKSY - Il terrorista dell'arte

"Banksy. Il terrorista dell'arte" ripercorre il lavoro di questo artista misterioso, dagli esordi fino alle ultime, incredibili performance.

Inoltre su Street Art interview facciamo rimbalzare un' intervista all'autrice. Invece qui pubblichiamo il link per avere i sottotitoli in italiano del film Exit through the gift shop.

Art in the Streets@MOCA, Los Angeles

The first large-scale American museum exhibition to survey the colorful history of graffiti and street art movements internationally.
Graffiti has been a form of public communication and identification since ancient times.
In its contemporary manifestation, it has redefined the urban landscape and influenced generations of artists.
This landmark exhibition traces the birth and dissemination of styles through "writers" and street artists around the world—including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Blu, Martha Cooper, Shepard Fairey, Stelios Faitakis, Futura, Phil Frost, Os Gemeos, Keith Haring, Todd James (REAS), Margaret Kilgallen, Lady Pink, Barry McGee (Twist), Steve Powers (ESPO), Lee Quinones, Retna, Kenny Scharf, Swoon, and Ed Templeton, among many others—focusing on New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, as well as international locations.
Highlighting the connection between graffiti and street art and other vibrant subcultures, such as those that developed around Hip Hop in the Bronx and skateboarding in Southern California, Art in the Streets explores parallel movements in dance and music.
A selection of new works created for the show is presented alongside the historical survey of approximately 30 of the most important artists seminal to the genre.
The exhibition is curated by MoCA Director Jeffrey Deitch, working with a curatorial advisory committee that includes Charlie Ahearn, Roger Gastman, Carlo McCormick, and Aaron Rose.

Kelsey Brookes@Circle Culture Gallery

Kelsey Brookes is a former biochemist who lives by the beach of San Diego, California. He attributes his raw art style to an education system “that refuses to teach scientists to draw.” He abandoned biochemistry and science’s loss became art’s gain. The works potency arguably lies in the way its clash of ancient and ultra-modern references downplay sex and death, which are featured heavily in the work. Brookes describes his art as “an unrefined and, some would say, unskilled mix of sex, comedy and animals which is derived from a true passion for all three, except not necessarily all at the same time.”
Kelsey Brookes´ new works are loud, colorful and abstract. They are a psychedelic Noah’s Arc of half human, half animal chimeras he calls “Caped Creatures“. They remind us that we have not evolved as far from animals as we would like to think, as Brookes states: “We humans often like to think of ourselves as outside the animal kingdom, a step removed from all that fur and fury. By presenting the subjects as half human/half animal, they put us back in our rightful place amongst the animals, where we belong.“

Exhibition: November 19 to January 12 2011
Opening hours: Tue - Fr, 2 - 6 PM / Sat 12 - 6 PM

Ronzo's solo show

Ronzo's second solo exhibition features a new series of paintings, collages, prints and sculptures showing life in the 'Ronzo Borough of Crackney'.
It is a dark but funny place inspired by the experience of living in London's East End borough of Hackney.
Ronzo's vision of Crackney is crawling with surreal characters including crack smoking squirrels and a pizza delivering giant cock roach - It has to be seen to be believed!

Wayne Horse@Galo Art Gallery

Willehad of Bremen Eilers (1981, Peine Ger.) goes by the name Wayne Horse and many many others. With his videos, animations, paintings, drawings, performances and installations related to graffiti and comic-culture, he gives an often mocking, ironic commentary on society.
He works tirelessly and presents a rapidly expanding body of work that arose from the need to tell stories, developing characters and new worlds. Besides a caustic, sharp humor, his work also contains a childlike playfulness.

“When Eilers presented his work at the national academy in the end of 2009, it mainly consisted of sharp social criticism where drawings simultaneously evoked associations with the sensational nature of bad B movies. His handwriting is described as a “graffiti style developed by: hard, sharp lines and aggressive themes that sometimes nice spinning out. Disturbing, violent depictions of Ku Klux Klan among others-like figures, sado masochism, torture, and a fitness obsessive culture came together in this presentation. At the end of this year Eilers plans to release a movie, which is currently in production.”

The Underbelly Project !

The Underbelly Project is a mysterious urban art experiment that seeks to subvert the commercialism that has overtaken much of the street art scene.
The art world is abuzz about an exhibit that neither spectators nor buyers are able to see. The Underbelly Project, one of the largest exhibits of street art ever shown, is located in an abandoned New York City subway station.
Curated by street artists PAC and Workhorse, the illegal project has been in the works since 2008. The 103 contributors are known only by pseudonym.
