On Thursday 25th June Black Rat Press will be hosting a book launch to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the legendary book Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant.
In 1984 Thames and Hudson made the brave decision to publish a book of photographs of graffiti covered trains from New York subways. The original print run was limited to only 5000 copies.
Subway Art has been in print ever since and the then little known scene which Martha and Henry documented has gone on to be an international phenomenon, in part thanks to the book itself.

Banksy VS Bristol Museum

Banksy Versus Bristol Museum
13 June - 31 August FREE EXHIBITION
Open Daily 10am- 5pm
Bristol's City Museum & Art Gallery is proud to present a unique collaboration between the city's foremost cultural institution and one of the region's most infamous artists. Banksy has gained notoriety in recent years by using stencils to paint images on a diverse array of outdoor locations.
This is the first exhibition in a three storey Edwardian museum.
Throughout the summer, visitors will find some unusual specimens amongst the museum's permanent collection - a stonehenge made from portable toilets greets visitors on arrival, a burnt out ice cream van now replaces the enquiries desk and the life size historic biplane suspended from the ceiling now provides refuge for a Guantanamo bay escapee. Banksy has filled the museum with his own wry take on classical art.

Urban Panorama Records

Pitti Immagine, XL the monthly magazine of La Repubblica and MondoPop, the Art Agency&Gallery in Rome, present URBAN PANORAMA RECORDS, a show which joins art and music by retrieving the 33 rmp records, the vinil Long Playing, as support to those artworks made by big artists of the international Urban Art.
For more than ten years, we stopped listening their music while they are still in good health. They are a vintage icon “par excellence” and a symbol of the club culture.
For more than ten years, we stopped listening their music while they are still in good health. They are a vintage icon “par excellence” and a symbol of the club culture.
The vinyl long playing are now the stars of Vinyl Factory, the collective art show related to the international announcement which MondoPOP International Gallery has proclaimed on the web in January and opened to worldwide urban artists, co- curated by Omino 71 and from an idea di BR1art.
Among more than 500 long playing vinyls painted by famous artists or not so much famous or even unknown, URBAN PANORAMA RECORDS presents the selection made by the artist and curator David Vecchiato, MondoPOP art director and XL‘s consultant.
Nearby the vinyls of important international and italian artists among with Jeremyville, Jon Burgerman, Jim Avignon, Christian Lindemann, Ciou, Andras Bartos, Diavù, AlePOP, Ozmo, Dem, Sten & Lex, Scarful, Cesko, Zelda Bomba, JB Rock, Fidia and others, you will see the art-works of the new International Urban art scene. All of them joined by a common purpose: exalt their own creativity and nullify the apparent limits of one just 12 inch‘s vinyl long playing record.
